Smallholder farmers are often described as the backbone of African agriculture, and rightly so. They represent the largest population of agricultural producers across the continent, supplying food for households, communities, and local markets.


Yet despite their importance, smallholder farmers remain the most constrained segment of Africa’s agricultural value chain.

The challenge is not effort; neither is it willingness nor knowledge.


The real issue is market access.
